ALL ABOUT EXFOLIATION: HOW TO EXFOLIATE YOUR FACE, BODY, SCALP, BEST PRODUCTS, PEELING …
This ritual provides several benefits, mainly for oily skin, such as the removal of blackheads, dead cells and oil control. In addition to the face and body, this technique must also be done on the scalp, especially those who suffer from dandruff. There are two types of exfoliation: physical and chemical. To learn all about this treatment, DermaClub spoke with dermatologist Tatiane Matos, from Salvador, who clarified the main doubts. Look at that!
What is exfoliation? Understand more about this technique!
According to the doctor, exfoliation is the act of removing the layers of dead skin cells, through physical means (products with granules) or chemical (procedures with acids or specific tools). This technique aims to cleanse the skin deeply through the use of creams, soaps or specific oils that provide this exfoliating action.

How should the ritual be done? Check out the exfoliation step by step:
Dr Tatiana advises that the exfoliation is done once or twice a week, preferably with a cleaning gel with particles that promote this slightly abrasive effect. “The frequency will depend on whether the patient is using acids that make the region more sensitive or that remove layers of dead cells. In this case, it is not necessary to use the scrub more than once a week ”, he said.
Check out the exfoliation step by step:
1st step) Apply the exfoliating product in the humid region making smooth and circular movements, exerting light pressure, being careful not to hurt the skin;
2nd step) Then, remove with water and your facial cleanser;
3rd step) After exfoliation, skin hydration is essential, even on oily skin. In this, preference should be given to products in gel or serum;
4th step) If the ritual is done during the day, apply sunscreen.
Should exfoliation be done only on the skin of the face?
Although it is the most common region to perform this ritual, exfoliation can also be done on the body , especially on the feet, which are usually rough and have thicker skin, as well as arms and legs in cases of keratosis pilaris. In addition, you can also exfoliate your scalp with exfoliating shampoos!
Hair scrub: understand how it works
Hair exfoliation is very similar to what we do on the skin : it has the function of removing residues, such as sebum, accumulation of products, dead cells, and also to control dandruff and oiliness. The ritual should be done with an exfoliating shampoo that purifies and balances the pH of the hair without causing dryness.

Peeling: understand this other exfoliation technique
The specialist explains better about this treatment: “Exfoliation consists of removing dead cells and both mechanical and chemical peels promote the same effect. Chemical peeling, in fact, promotes greater exfoliation than the regular use of exfoliants at home ”, he said.
What is the difference from the common exfoliation to the one made with peeling?
The common exfoliation is performed at home and is done by the patient himself, using products with less potential for aggression to the skin. The peeling, on the other hand, “is a treatment that must be done in the dermatological office and has a more potent effect, but also a higher risk of spots, irritations and sensitivity if it is not done correctly” he said.

Doubts about exfoliation: the dermatologist clarifies!
Is exfoliation able to lighten skin spots?
Yes! “The stains are being stimulated to be eliminated by the increased metabolism of the epidermis, since the layers of dead cells are removed gradually, giving space to the new ones that are formed”, he guaranteed.
Who has sensitive or rosacea skin can exfoliate?
Yes, but very carefully! “ Exfoliation can make the skin more sensitive , leaving a reddish, scaly appearance, with a burning sensation or even an allergy”.
Who has acne lesions, can I do exfoliation?
You can and should! “Because by removing the first layers of skin, follicular hyperkeratosis is also reduced, which is the obstruction of the follicle yard, one of the mechanisms of acne”, he concluded. However, it is important to pay attention to the stage of acne – if it is still inflamed, never exfoliate.
